Wie fast jeden Herbst bringt Activision auch dieses Jahr wieder ein komplettes Guitar Hero auf den Markt. Ob das Spielprinzip weiterhin Laune macht, bleibt abzuwarten. Die Neuerungen machen allerdings Lust auf mehr. Zum einen wäre da der "Party"-Modus, in dem jedes Instrument ein-und austeigen kann, wann es möchte. Dazu kommt, dass es völlig egal ist, welches Intrument man wählt. Wenn zwei Spieler Gitarre spielen möchten, ist das überhaupt kein Problem. Eine dritte, vierte oder fünfte Gitarre ist ebenfalls möglich. Das gilt für alle Instrumente (Drums, Bass, Gitarre). Im Modus "Rockfest" spielt die Band gemeinsam einen Song. Alle Spieler beginnen auf dem Schwierigkeitsgrad "leicht". Je nachdem wie gut ein Spieler ist, steigt die Schwierigkeit. Verbockt er zu viele Noten, wird er wieder heruntergestuft.
Alle Modi sind auch im Online-Modus verfügbar. Es darf wieder mit der kompletten Band online gerockt werden. Aber auch die Kopf-an-Kopf Gitarrenschlachten haben ihren festen Platz in der Guitar Hero-Serie. Was die Songauswahl angeht, wird mal wieder einiges geboten: Von modernen Bands wie The Killers, Wolfmother, AFI und Blink 182 über Legenden wie Johnny Cash (der auch selbst als Figur im Spiel auftritt), Nirvana (!) und den White Stripes bis hin zu Klassikern wie Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones und David Bowie. Es dürfte also für jeden Geschmack etwas dabei sein.
